Better By Bike is a biennial design competition hosted by Melbourne Bikefest. First held in 2010 the competition seeks to unearth improvements in bicycle infrastructure or accessories aimed at improving the experience of bike riders through design.
MBF Creative Producer Pip Carroll says the competition is particularly popular with students, design professionals and bicycle enthusiasts. "Every year we are overwhelmed with the level of creativity and inspiration. THis initiative supports inovation in design and directly benefits the wider community through sustainable and environmentally conscious products and services."
Winners in the 2010 competition included Mik Efford with his bamboo bicycle and Josh Wright for his <BIKE CHECK> stickers, designed to remind car drivers to check for bikes when exiting cars. You can read all about these guys and their entries at The Squeaky Wheel.

Presented by Onitsuka Tiger and Treadlie Magazine 2012 will see two winners, a People's Choice winner and one overall winner as selected by a panel of judges.
The winner of the judge's prize will receive $500 cash and an Onitsuka Tiger prize pack valued at $750 (including 3 pairs of sneakers, apparel and accessories) 2 year subsription to Treadlie Magazine. and editorial coverage in the June issue.
The winner of the People's Choice prize will receive An Onitsuka Tiger prize pack valued at $750 (including 3 pairs of sneakers, apparel and accessories) and a 1 year subsription to Treadlie Magazine.
The panel of judges will be Leyla Acoroglu (Director of Eco Innovators, sessional lecturer at RMIT and guest judge on ABC's The New Inventors), Gary Pennington (Industrial Designer at Buro North) and Faith Hunter (Editor at Treadlie Magazine)
